The Christchurch Convention Centre is the South Island’s premium convention space. Comprising of seven breakout rooms, three halls and with a current capacity of 4000 people. Extensive growth in the Australasian convention market and a need for a larger convention space in New Zealand, borne the business case for the expansion of the existing Christchurch Convention Centre to be approximately double in size, with two additional halls, a small auditorium, breakout rooms and a new catering kitchen, allowing the ability to host conventions of up to 10,000 people.
The scope of the project included leading the preparation of concept solution, coordinating the securing of local and government funding, and negotiating through to finalising the land acquisitions for the extended site.
